As a Denver child custody attorney, I was struck by a recent article in a publication by the Colorado Bar Association which discusses the consideration of how an effective Denver divorce lawyer should approach a mediation. The lawyer should never forget that his or her reputation is their most important asset. Accordingly, we need to be professional at all times throughout any arbitration process. Civility to opposing counsel if critical. Never personally attack or disparage your opponent. Refuting an opposing aurgument is different from personally attacking the lawyer on the other side. If the other lawyer insults you or the client, always remain calm rational and articulate. By doing so, your will score points with the court, mediator or tribunal.
